Putu Sutawijaya

There’s a new book out about Putu Sutawijaya, plus an exhibit at the National Gallery. Jim Supangkat’s “Legacy of Sagacity” chronicles the Bali-born, Yogya-trained artist’s works and creative process.

Putu writes that working on the book was instructive for him, because it is a long process that demands structure. He compares it to building an art installation or producing choreography: It is not about your ability to dance, it is about being a creator, building your dance into something meaningful. Just like my work ‘Dancing in the Full Moon.’ It is about creating a dance until you become one with the moon.

Putu’s exhibtion at Galeri Nasional, opposite Gambir Station in Central Jakarta, ends Sunday. (posted by Benito Lopulalan).

Three Indonesian artists — Maulana Muhamad Pasha, Monika Ary Kartika Soetjipto and myself (Neneng Ferrier) — recently traveled to Bangladesh for the 13th Asian Art Biennale. Six additional Indonesians were chosen but were not able to attend.

Here are a few details about the art. Pasha did an installation called “Town Wall” that included fabric and an arched aluminum tunnel and a video projector showing his video,adel-pasha-with-his-instalation
