Benito Lopulalan

Benito Lopulalan was born in Bogor. He spent his elementary school years in Surabaya, his teenage years in
Bali, and his university years in Malang. He studied agriculture at university but was attracted to journalism
and has since been writing for publications both in Indonesia and abroad.

Benito moved back to Bali in 1994. He was gradually attracted to the arts, particularly visual arts.

He was involved in the Sanggar Posti, helping organize Budaya Malam Minggu (1994-1995) — a series of weekly discussions for artists, students and art lovers. He has also been involved in NGO activities. Early in 2008 he helped the Bali Mangsi Foundation prepare some Balinese artists to apply for the Beijing Biennale. Five of them were accepted.
Ben is passionate about introducing Indonesian artists to the international art scene.
